What is the THIN AIR School Program?

The THIN AIR School Program allows students to meet and hear practicing writers reading and talking about their work. That can change the world for kids at all grade levels. They begin to imagine what's inside a story or poem. They begin to see how writing connects to their own lives. Many of them will begin the painstaking process of building their own worlds out of words. Along the way, they become better readers, and more engaged and interested learners. Over 90% of participating teachers would recommend the THIN AIR School Program to their colleagues. They have seen the benefits first hand.Our School Program has two major components. Your school may choose to register in both streams.

THE SCHOOL STAGE is a series of readings at the CanWest Global Performing Arts Centre (home of MTYP) at The Forks. Each program features writers reading from their work and answering questions. Readings are targeted toward particular age groups: grades 4-6 and grades 7-9.

WRITERS TO THE SCHOOLS arranges for individual writers to meet groups of students in school libraries or classrooms. Groups of up to 50 students who are at about the same grade level work best for this program. New this year is our Writers to the Schools for students in grades 10-12. This will give students in this range the opportunity to have a more intimate encounter with an author. Younger audiences (kindergarten and grade 1) benefit from half-hour sessions; hour-long sessions are appropriate for older students.

C’est quoi, la Programmation Scolaire THIN AIR?

Il est essentiel de soutenir nos enfants en cours d'alphabétisation et de les encourager à découvrir les richesses d'une vie nourrie de lecture. Une programmation en français fait partie de notre mandat. Le Festival propose deux spectacles scolaires sur scène en français aux éleves francophones et aux éleves en immersion française de la 4e à la 9e année, au CanWest Global Performing Arts Centre (salle du MTYP) situé à La Fourche. Le programme des écrivains à l’école est offert aux éleves de la maternelle à la troisème année et la dixième à la douzième année.
